Route One. The doorway to adventure. The dawn of a new life. Dotted with the footsteps of a million trainers. And now she was one of them.
"Come on out, Chimchar!"
The sudden outburst broke the still silence and, in a flash of vivid red light, the little fiery monkey formed on the ground. It instantly let out a cry of glee, clearly happy to be out of its stuffy ball.
"Hi there, Chimchar! I'm Lee Ann, your new trainer!" the young teen said, grinning from ear to ear. This was her Pokemon. Her Pokemon. Her VERY OWN POKEMON!! "But, you can just call me Lee!" she added, emerald eyes sparkling. The primate cocked her head to one side before nodding, accepting her leadership.
"Hmm..." she continued, putting a finger to her mouth. "You need a name. How about... Ember?"
Chimchar narrowed her eyes in thought, testing out the name in her mind, before shaking her head.
"Right. It would get confused with the attack. How about Pyro?"
At this Chimchar instantly cringed. It made her sound like a deranged maniac.
"Okay, that's not good either. Oh! I know!" she cried, a light bulb bursting above her head. "How do you like Cynder? Thats Cynder with a 'y', not an 'i'."
This time the monkey nodded eagerly, giving an enthusiastic cheer of 'Chimchar!' It fit her perfectly. Feminine, yet different. It set her apart from all the other Pokemon in the world who happened to have a flame on their rear end. Yes, maybe life with this new girl wouldn't be so bad after all!
Lee smiled, glad that her Pokemon had accepted her name. "Alright, lets go! Onto Route One!" And together the duo started down the path, awaiting any challenges Mother Nature could throw at them.

There's a peculiar splashing noise coming from the water's edge. It sounds frantic and desperate.
Will you investigate?

Lee inhaled deeply, enjoying the fresh crisp morning air. Utter silence... And then suddenly a maniacal splash!
"Whoa! What in the world was that?!" she gasped, making a run for the water. Cynder quickly followed after, traveling on her knuckles. The long-haired girl meekly peered over the lakes edge, blinking conciously.

A rather large Magikarp rested in the shallows of the water, it's fins waving lazily. Just moments ago, a Spearow had dove down in search of something to eat. If it had been skilled, the Magikarp would have been it's dinner for sure. But it hadn't been a very old Spearow, resulting in one that didn't know what it was doing. The fish Pokemon survived- this time.
A Magikarp has appeared! What will you do?

Lee Ann cupped a hand over her eyes, peering into the crystal clear water. Cynder did the same-- monkey see, monkey do, no? Drifting in the shadows of the bridge (assuming the bridge is there) was an ENORMOUS... Fish.
Instantly Lee lost feeling in her body. It... It was just a... Just a fish. Thats all. It was alive, completely alive, not dead at all. Besides, its not like it would suddenly grow limbs and walk up onto land, right? Right! Nothing to fear, nothing to fear at all.
"Uh- uhhr..." she stammered, feeling her face begin to turn pink with lack of oxygen, "Hey there, Magikarp! Hows it going...?"
Cynder sighed, shaking her head slightly. A Magikarp? Really? Her trainer was afraid of a Magikarp. What was this world coming to? As if sensing the Chimchar's taunting thoughts, Lee shot a death glare at her Pokemon. "It-it's only dead fish, okay!?" At this the monkey had to hide a glimmer of a smile, making the teen even more furious. "Alright, alright! Its just... My brother threw a dead fish at me when I was little. I couldn't stand them ever since." Cynder patted the girls leg in mock sympathy. She groaned, returning her attention to the monstrosity of a Pokemon that lurked in the shallows.

The large fish opened his eyes slowly, and noticed the Chimchar staring at him. Along with a human. "Magi!" he exclaimed in surprise, and slapped it's tail down on the water, where it hit the place he had been resting on. Thus resulting in the fish Pokemon being thrust upward, sailing onto the shore of the lake. He flopped around helplessly, trying to make his way back into the water. In his panic, the Magikarp noticed with amusement, that he was almost as big as the Chimchar.

Lee grinned. "Were having fried fish tonight," she said.
Much to her astonishment, the fish said something. No, it practically screamed its name! And if that wasn't bad enough, it flew from the water with a mighty splash of water, headed straight for the poor girls head.
And she screamed. Loudly.
To think that mere moments ago she had been frozen in time! But no, she wasn't going to risk being slammed to the ground under that slimy, scaly, water-dwelling beast. Her legs launched out from under her, pulling her away before the fish monster had a chance to crush her. And now she was panting like a dog, pupils dilated, staring at the harmless little carp at a safe distance.
By now, Cynder just couldn't help herself. She was literally rolling across the ground, sides racking with laughter. Who could blame her? The chimp didn't seem to mind the fact that this particular Magikarp was nearly as big as her, if not larger and likely weighed more than her tiny little self. One false flop and she could be suffocated to death.
"D-don't just sit there!" Lee shrieked, feet cemented in place. "Do something! Push it back in the water! Attack it! I don't care, just get it away from me!"
Okay, she had to admit- Lee was being pretty pitiful. Swiping a tear away from her eye, the Chimchar pushed herself to her feet, preparing to 'do something'.

The Magikarp watched as the little Chimchar moved towards him, and his flopping grew in strength. His tail slammed down onto the grass with enough force to send him upwards again, landing a few inches closer to the water. Did he really want to be attacked- or worse, eaten? Heck no. But if he was pushed back into the water, he could live his life again; until the Spearow returned, hungrier and stronger. But would he risk his life in the hands of a trainer? He'd rather be eaten.

"Well if thats the way its gonna be then bon apatite!"
Lee shuddered helplessly. It was obvious this fish just wanted to get back to the water (or did it? Dun dun duuuun!) and it seemed Cynder wasn't going to help-- she'd fallen victim to another laughing fit-- so... Gulping down a deep breath of air, she lifted her leg and set it closer to the carp.
Yes! A step! Only five more to go!
"You owe me big time for this." she growled at her Pokemon, who had sat back to enjoy the show. And a good one it shall be!
Now she scooted forward her other leg. Even closer!
Lee repeated these steps until she was standing over the Magikarp, who hadn't made much progress in his aimless splashing. "You owe me too." she declared, crouching down. And, with one mighty shove, she sent the fish sprawling back into the lake from which it came.
Once the deed was done, she let out a little cry and furiously wiped her hands on her shorts, trying to rid them of the slime that had rubbed off from Magikarp. Cautiously, she lifted them to her nose and gave a whiff...
"Yeck! My hands are gonna smell like fish for hours!" she cried with a disgusted grimace.

The Magikarp flopped around, hoping the human would try to eat him like the Spearow. But as he was shoved back into the water, he blinked gratefully to her. The orange fish Pokemon dove down to the deepest part of the lake, and continued his rest. You have let the Magikarp go. It swam away happily.
Meanwhile from above, the Spearow from before watched in irritation. His meal was just let go by that idiot human! "Spea!" he screeched in a battle cry, diving down from where he had been circling. The bird Pokemon was annoyed, and hungry; he wouldn't let the pair get away with letting his meal go. He hadn't eaten in days, leaving him weak, but he didn't care. He aimed his attack at the Chimchar, diving with a head-on Peck attack.
A Spearow has appeared! What will you do?

Lee Ann breathed a sigh of relief, swiping a bead of sweat away from her brow. That horrid slimy beast had retreated back to the not-so-murky depths, never to flop the shores next to her again. (At least, she hoped.)
"Glad that's over with..." she murmured, casting a sideways glance toward her partner. Then suddenly a brown blur of movement caught her eye... Releasing a maddened battle screech was a Spearow-- and a furious one at that!
"C-Cynder, above you!" she gasped, pointing an accusing finger to the sky. With reflexes as sharp as a blade the monkey stumbled back, taken by surprise at the sudden challenge.
"Hurry, meet it head on with a Scratch attack!" Lee instructed swiftly. "Then hang back and use Leer!"
This was it. Her very first real Pokemon battle! She just hoped Cynder would do well. What if she got hurt in battle? Lee would have to run back to the lab to get her healed, and have to admit that she'd let her Pokemon get hurt already...
But no. Lee quickly pushed away those thoughts, banishing them to the recesses of her mind. She'd have to be brave and believe in her Chimchar if she wanted her to succeed.

He swooped away and landed with a funny hop as his attack missed. Narrowing his eyes he turned around and ruffled his feathers at the Chimchar. As the monkey pokemon came in for the scratch he simply hopped to the left, he saw the attack coming. He then flapped his wings and charged at the Chimchar for another peck attack as he was hit with the Leer.

Lee could hardly resist the urge to jump up and down, fangirl style, as both Pokemon dodged one another's attack. So exciting! So intense! Her body stiffened, however, when the Spearow fluffed out his feathers and flew for Aspen in an attempt to land another Peck attack!
"Don't worry, just keep calm!" she encouraged as the Chimchar braced for impact. "Wait until he's in close range, then blast him with an Ember!"
The flame on the chimp's tail flickered dangerously large as she gave a slow nod, hopping back a pace to as to give herself another moment of time. Yes, calm was the key. In panic, one endangered themself. But if she simply kept her cool she wouldn't get hurt. Still, that Spearow looked pretty angry...

The spearow flapped his wings harder and harder as he neared the Chimchar. Come on! Come on! He tucked his wings in to complete the peck just as the ember flew at him. He winced but kept the attack coming. The smell of burnt feathers hung in the air.

Lee cringed.
"You okay out there, Cynder?" she called to the chimp. She nodded and flashed her trainer a thumbs up.
"Great! Now, I want you to see if you can tackle it to the ground (not the move, the action) and hit it with a Scratch. Since you're heavier, you should be able to prevent it from hitting back or getting away!"
