The weather was nice. Her hair was in check. There were no extra holes in her socks. Time to go adventuring!
Lee Ann Marie Cornelia, or Lee as she preferred to be called, made her way down a roughly worn path. The footsteps of a million trainers led her to the Chyral Lab, where she herself would finally get her very first Pokemon.
But which one was right for her?
The young girl hadn't given it much thought... Unless you counted about 11 years of her life... Oh, who was she kidding? It was all she could think about for weeks!
Somehow she had narrowed down her options to three-- one Grass, one Fire, and one Water. First up was Squirtle. A very stable first Pokemon, with steely defenses and the ability to crack out devilish Water-type moves. A good strong Wartortle-- or even Blastoise-- would be the anchor of any battle, being able to withstand many attacks and dish out massive hurt with famous moves like Hydro Pump and Surf.
Then there was Chimchar. Not only was it extremely cute, but a speed demon as well and with attack and special attack that would skyrocket early on! Any Monferno or Infernape would be the OHKO'er, fast as lightning to strike first and strike hard. Still, she might be reluctant to let it evolve, for it would lose it's natural cuteness in later forms.
Last on her list but definitely not least was Treecko. Like Chimchar, it would be a fast little thing, with extreme special attack power and a series of health-sapping moves to keep itself strong while taking a chunk out of the opponent. Grovyle and Sceptile would dominate any and every battle, dodging attacks with the greatest of ease and whittling down their health until they've got none left! Again, she would likely stop it's evolution at stage two as Sceptile kind of scared her..
Lee let out a little squeal of excitement as she imagined herself with a Pokemon-- any Pokemon! Biting back the urge to charge down the road full speed, she took a deep breath to try and slow her racing pulse back to normal.

Good-bye's had been taken care of beforehand. Everyone in her family had received at least five hugs-- save for her brother, who got a reluctant hand shake-- and her parents adorned her with kisses and life lessons. They had even pitched in to get her a little gift! It was a brand new backpack, blue camouflage and single-strapped. As if this wasn't great enough, she found everyone had gotten her a going away present! From her father was a fancy Poketch-- just what every aspiring trainer needed, and blue to match her bag! A little toy Magikarp came from her brother (hardy-har-har) and was carefully 'discarded' into one of the smaller pockets of her pack. She had even got an entire new outfit from her mom. It was a light summer dress, green with blue and white rings of varying sizes, and had a strap that went around her neck to connect to the other side. With it came tight-fitting white kaprees and some laceless shoes. Not the kind of thing she would normally wear, but she put it on anyway to please her mom. Anyway, first impressions were everything, and showing up at the lab wearing baggy guy shorts just didn't seem to cut it, so she just pretended she wasn't wearing it at all and continued with her life happily.

Our young hero reached the laboratory at around noon. Sure, she had to scale a self-proclaimed hill of a mountain, but at this point she was willing to do anything for that starter that waited just inside! Besides, she had lost all feeling in her legs about half way up, so it was all good. Smoothing out her dress-- while trying not to hack up her lunch at the mere sight of it-- she rapped politely on the door with a fist, about ready to burst out of her skin!
"Hurry, hurry..." she urged the door, waiting for it to swing open and welcome her in.
